What is a Re-Entry Permit? Why do you need it?
Re-Entry Permit or permit to re-enter the Kingdom again is an important document for foreigners who hold long-term visas in Thailand (e.g. retirement visa, marriage visa, work visa, student visa, etc.) and intend to temporarily leave the country. If you travel out of Thailand without a Re-Entry Permit, your long-term visa may be automatically cancelled when you leave Thailand. Therefore, a Re-Entry Permit is essential if you want to maintain your original visa status and return to Thailand as usual.
Why do you need a Re-Entry Permit?
- Maintain Long-Term Visa Status:
- Under Thai immigration law, if you leave the country without a Re-entry Permit, your existing stay status (such as work visa, retirement visa, marriage visa or extension of various visa categories) will be automatically cancelled as soon as you leave the country.
- Re-Entry Permit allows you to re-enter Thailand and continue using your original visa or residence permit.
Types of Re-Entry Permits We Provide
Two main types of Re-Entry Permit to meet your different travel needs:
- Single Re-Entry Permit (Single Re-Entry Permit):
- Details: Allows you to leave and re-enter Thailand once within the validity period of your visa
- Suitable for: People who only plan to go abroad once and have no other plans to go abroad in the near future.
- Validity period: 3 months or equal to the remaining validity period of the visa
- Multiple Re-Entry Permit (Multiple Re-Entry Permit):
- Details: Multiple entries and exits are allowed within one year or before the visa expires
- Suitable for: People who frequently enter and exit Thailand or have an uncertain number of entries
- Validity period: 1 year or the remaining validity period of the visa
The re-entry permit system is a mechanism that allows single-entry visa holders who need to temporarily leave the country to re-enter without losing their original visa privileges.
